Maya: Our science display is almost ready. We have two books, a sheet of folded paper between them, and some coins. How much weight do you think this paper bridge will hold up?
Arman: Before we start, make a prediction. I think it will hold five coins because the folds make the paper stronger. What do you think?
Maya: I’m less certain. It might hold only three coins because the middle looks weak. Let’s add the coins one at a time.
Arman: Coin number one is on. The bridge hasn’t moved. Now I’m putting number two in the centre.
Maya: Still fine. I’ll revise my prediction. It will hold six coins, but the next one might make it bend.
Arman: Here come coins three, four, and five. The paper is bending slightly, but it hasn’t collapsed.
Maya: Time for coin number six. It might collapse now because most of the weight is in the middle.
Arman: Six is on, and the bridge is holding up. That’s already more than your first prediction and one more than mine.
Maya: Let’s try seven. Carefully... It’s still standing! This bridge is tougher than it seems. I predict that coin eight will be the last one.
Arman: Eight is on. Nine is on. I can’t believe it. Shall we try coin ten?
Maya: Yes. Ten is on, and... there it goes! The middle has collapsed, and all the coins are on the table.
Arman: It turned out that the bridge held nine coins. The actual result was much higher than my prediction of five.
Maya: And it held three times as many coins as my first guess. Our predictions were wrong, but the result taught us about folds and weight.
Arman: Your turn, listener. Imagine a bridge made from two sheets. Make one prediction with “will” and a less certain prediction with “might.”
Maya: Support one prediction with “because.” Then imagine the result and say, “It turned out that...” Surprises are part of the fun of experimenting.
بعد نتیجه را تصور کن و بگو «It turned out that...».

It will hold six coins.
It might collapse.
It might collapse because the middle looks weak.
The result was higher than my prediction.
